The Bottom Lounge is one of the more pleasant venues in Chicago. It can be configured to hold 700 or 900. If you are 21+ then you are able to leave the venue whenever you like like to go smoke or get some air. The venue is actually behind a restaurant that serves food until about 1 AM. Security is relaxed but serious. Upon entering you are not physically searched. Under 21 patrons receive bold Xs on their hands. If you choose to smoke cigarettes inside you will be given one warning. If you are caught smoking anything else, you will be kicked out immediately. There are plain clothes security mingling in the crowd looking for smoking and underage drinking. No one is bothered for smoking outside. The Sound at the Bottom Lounge is always on point and very loud for the size of the venue. They always have at least 2 people watching the soundboards and they are both professionals. The bathrooms are not attended to during the performances so they get pretty gross near the end of the night. There is a drinking fountain available near the bathrooms. Drinks are fairly priced via the bar inside the venue or in the restaurant. Domestics are $4 along with tall PBRs. Other tall boys and import beers are $6. Shows usually start around 9:00 and end between 1 and 2 AM.
