BoomBox’s unique brand of dance music allows for the fusion of Rock and Roll, Vintage Psychedelic and House.Applying a multi-track platform, they are free to create their hybrid style on the fly with a rhythm that moves fans and opens them up to a natural and organic blend of music diversity.
BoomBox is comprised of DJ/Producer/Drummer Russ Randolph and Vocalist/Guitarist/GDF Zion Godchaux. The group grew from the rich music culture of Muscle Shoals, Alabama where both Russ and Zion sat in with various rock bands before they started working together and moved toward a more diverse musical direction.
Today this dynamic duo uses their deep musical knowledge to create totally original modern day boogie music. Russ layers deep, complex beats over Zion’s groovy guitar lines and soft vocals which have been evolving since their first album “Visions of Backbeat” was released in 2005. After years of steady touring and honing their sound, they released their sophomore effort, “downriverelectric” which was well received by critics and looked at as a progressive step forward for the pair.
Earlier this year, BoomBox released their third album “Filling in the Color” with help from a successful Kickstarter campaign. The album seems to really encompass that BoomBox sound with a more polished production and more lyrical content. “Filling in the Color” is an album that continues to showcase the duo’s ability to move any dance floor.
The group stopped through Chicago already this year and put on an amazing performance filled with both old classics and new jams. Check out the Ray John review of their Chicago show and listen below to hear some of their new jams off the new album!
