This weeks lesson in “turning up” points us in the direction of the west coast, Santa Cruz, CA to be exact. There is the home of the very young and very talented producer G Jones. Since 2012 (G)reg has been making waves in the trap scene with a sound that whispers west coast bass. In a sub-genre that relies so heavily on the repetitive sounds of air horns and emergency sirens, G Jones takes a much more minimal approach and achieves maximally stupendous results. These are the type of beats that you can vibe, glide and ride to all at the same time. Every song he releases sounds more defined, finely tuned and mature than the last while still maintaining the charm that caught listeners ears in the first place. Fans aren’t the only ones taking notice as (G)reg has made several collaborations with bass superstar Minnesota including a three track EP that was released in 2013 (Mile High Club). 2014 looks to be a big year for G Jones so before the bandwagon gets full, listen to the tracks below then hop on while there’s still room!
