Embracing the White Space: XXYYXX strengthens the sounds he does use by foregoing the kitsch.
By Sonny Forrest
Minimalist. Crafted for utility. Comfortably sparse, but soulfully charming, XXYYXX‘s sound is the Scandinavian furniture of today’s Electro. Forgive the one-syllable-too-mouthy name. Focus on the fact that XXYYXX is only 18 years old and churning out dynamic tracks with impeccable production quality.
This precocious soundscape architect’s beats are begging to be sliced and turned into samples for hip hop tracks. 2012’s self-titled album has a pronounced allegiance with the manic 808 high-hats of Southern rap. I shared the album on the homepage, but opted to share some newer tracks with you below.
XXYYXX (damn those last two X’s) is forging his own aethetic without the gimmicks other producers use as crutches. Crutches are the mark of followers, not explorers. Let these tracks aid you on your journey of personal exploration and radical self-discovery.
