Jun Seba was one of the most gifted producers of our time. Under the moniker of Nujabes, Jun took sampling to a whole new level by injecting jazz based influences into hip-hop beats. His sound could be described as mellow, harmonious or even nostalgic. His songs always have the ability to paint a picture; all the listener has to do is close their eyes. It’s quite easy to get lost in reflection while listening to a Nujabes’ album and it’s the perfect background music to a sunny day, actually, any day. Sadly he was taken away from us far too soon when he died following a car accident in 2010. He remains highly regarded in the hip-hop and electronic communities and is without question a bona fide legend. Everyone from Pretty Lights to Emancipator cites him as an influence and you can definitely hear that influence in some of their songs. As long as people continue to look to music as a means for emotional release, escaping reality or appreciating the beautiful things in life, the sounds of Nujabes shall forever remain timeless.
